To Top) KATHMANDU: Petitions to restore the kingdom's Parliament after it was dissolved in May have been dismissed by the Supreme Court, clearing the way for fresh polls slated for early November. The House was dissolved by King Gyanendra on the advice of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. This happened after the majority Nepali Congress party refused to support the latter's plan to extend a state of emergency to fight the Maoists who want to establish a Communist republic by ousting the monarchy. Tuesday's court ruling came as 60 former deputies filed a petition arguing that Deuba's move to dissolve Parliament while the country was under emergency rule was unconstitutional.
