Threat to BJP-TDP alliance

Hyderabad: It seems that the relation between BJP and its regional ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is on the rock as the latter is now undergoing an ideological churning process in Andhra Pradesh, which "supposedly" can cause its parting ways with BJP. The delicate relationship between the two allies has already been under strain since BJP President L.K. Advani asserted his party's commitment to Hindutva ideology and construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya at the party's silver jubilee celebrations in Delhi. It is believed that Advani's remarks have dismayed TDP and it is now worried about the "threat to secularism". "We condemn BJP's moves to revert to hardline Hindutva and revive Ayodhya issue. This poses danger to secularism," said Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) leader K Yerran Naidu.

Paswan blames JD (U) for Bihar deadlock  (Go To Top)

New Delhi: Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilisers and LJP chief, Ram Vilas Paswan today continued blaming JD (U) over the issue of Government formation in Bihar, saying that a new government cannot be formed until JD (U) parts ways with BJP. Reacting to the reports of Nitish Kumar, JD (U) leader, accusing him of "ditching", he said, "I don't know what happened and what he (Kumar) has said". The LJP chief further said, "If JD (U) decides to severe its ties with BJP and agree for a Chief Minister from the minority community, not necessarily from my party, Government formation is not a problem at all". He also said that his party, on no condition, would join hands with the RJD. Paswan said that he was not against government formation, but wanted his two conditions to be fulfilled-- Chief Minister should be from a minority community and JD (U) snap its ties with BJP. Earlier, JD (United) leader Nitish Kumar, said that he was giving up his attempts to form a government with Paswan's LJP. "What we could have done we did. He has done what he could. He has insulted us and all this after we had agreed that a government can be formed," Nitish Kumar said.

RSS chief for retirement of Advani and Vajpayee  (Go To Top)

New Delhi: The RSS Chief K Sudarshan has said that BJP chief LK Advani and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were too old to properly lead the BJP and they should step down now, giving way to new faces. "I say he should go and let new faces emerge. He should stay as a senior advisor only. Age is a factor after all. Both should go now and let new leadership emerge," the RSS chief said in an interview to a TV channel. The demand for resignation of Advani is being seen as a clear signal of differences between the party and its ideological command RSS. The RSS chief also said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has also been instructed to improve his style of functioning and act democratically. Earlier, four chief ministers of BJP-ruled states met Sudarshan on Saturday at RSS headquarter in Nagpur.
