Congress expels Karunakaran's son Muraleedharan

New Delhi: The Congress today expelled former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief K. Muraleedharan, son of veteran party leader K. Karunakaran from the party for six years for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities. Janardhan Dwiwedi, General Secretary, Congress announced the party decision on Muraleedharn's expulsion, in a press release. Make Phukan Commission report public: Fernandes (Go To Top)

New Delhi: Former Defence Minister and JD (U) leader, George Fernandes, once again repeated his demand for making the Justice Phukan Commission report public. Phukan Commission was assigned the task to examine charges levelled against Fernandes by a news portal, Tehelka.com. Placing his demand for making the report public, Fernandes said, "The Phukan Commission report should be placed before the Parliament. The law clearly states that all reports should be tabled in the House within six months. I have spoken to everyone including the Speaker. But nothing has happened". He continued with his tirade against the Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi, and said that the charges levelled against him by Tehelka were hatched at Congress President Sonia Gandhi's residence and it involved two senior Congress leaders.

"The entire Tehelka conspiracy was hatched at Sonia Gandhi's residence. Two Congress leaders - Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi and Oscar Fernandes - masterminded the charges," he said. "I have proof that the conspiracy to malign me was hatched at the residence of Sonia Gandhi by Congress MPs Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and Oscar Fernandes," the JD (U) leader said. "If Congress could play such mischief while being in the opposition, one can just imagine what they can do now that the party is in power. It is a point to ponder," he said. Coming to the political front, the former minister blamed Paswan for failure in forming govt in Bihar "Unfortunately, someone who had been with us, has not helped in installation of a non-RJD government," he said without naming Paswan. Earlier, JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar had yesterday withdrawn his initiative to form a government in Bihar accusing Paswan of "ditching" him.

Bhardwaj says judiciary be made accountable (Go To Top)

New Delhi: In an effort towards making judiciary more accountable, Union Law Minister Hansraj Bhardawaj today said that the government was considering the formation a special council, which would examine indictments against the judiciary. The minister said that the council would include judges. "For the last few years there have been lots of accusations against the judiciary. We are thinking of making the judiciary accountable and setting up a national judicial council. The judges in the council will decide on cases against the judiciary, and take action," said Bhardwaj. The announcement by Bhardawaj came in view of the instances and events like the mass boycott of work by the Punjab and Haryana High court judges, which caused havoc in the working of the judicial system.
