Difficult to work in Bihar: Patna judge

Patna: In what could be bad news for the RJD president Lalu Yadav, a High Court judge here has said he will ask the Supreme Court to transfer him out of the state. "It's become virtually impossible for a high court judge to work in this state," Justice RS Garg said. Justice Garg said he was being dragged into a political controversy over an order in which he had ruled that loudspeakers should not be used during namaaz (prayers). "Going by the conspiracy being hatched against me, I think I should request the Supreme Court to transfer me out of Bihar so that I can carry on my work honestly and others can do what they like," he said. Justice Garg's order had evoked angry protest and threats against him. The implementation of the order had also lead to the arrest of a local imam in Patna.

Debate over 'Netaji's death still on (Go To Top)

Kolkata: A respondent to the commission probing the death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose deposed on Thursday, that Netaji did not die in a plane crash as alleged. The one-man commission, headed by Justice Manoj Kumar Mukherjee, is open for all those who claim to have any information regarding the death of Bose. Mukherjee said Chandrayee Alam, one of the respondents, claimed to have documents to prove that Netaji did not die in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18,1945. "Mrs. Chandrayee Alam started her arguments. Her main contention was that there was no plane accident as alleged nor did Netaji die in such an accident. On the other hand she argued that Netaji wanted to go to Russia and in support of her such claim she referred to different letters including a letter by Netaji in 1944. She argued that there were materials to indicate that he was in Russia. But the documents she referred to, all related to statements content therein of different persons there. So, unless those persons were examined, those documents their statements made to others cannot be treated as evidence being hearsay. So, therefore she says she will not pursue further arguments on question of Netaji's stay in Russia. But she will argue on other points," Mukherjee told reporters. Justice Mukherjee would present the commission's findings in May.
