Kanchi's Madhavan assault case takes another twist

Kancheepuram: Kancheepuram's Madhavan assault case took another twist on Monday when two TVS employees surrendered before a magistrate's court. Retired Deputy Superintendant of Police Muthukrishnan and Ranganathan appeared before Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-II, Damodaran and surrendered before him. The ''Tirukkottiyur'' Madhavan assault case is significant in that the Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Mutt, Acharya Jayendra Saraswati has already filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Principal Sessions Court here. The duo, who had obtained anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court on Janury 28, were released on bail by the magistrate. Their surrender came in the wake of Madras High Court directing them to surrender before the court within 15 days and furnish a bond for Rs 5,000 and two sureties for a like sum. The case pertained to the assault on Madhavan, allegedly at the behest of the Kanchi Mutt, after he objected to the shifting of a Siva shrine from a Vaishnavite temple at Thirukkurungudi in Tirunelveli district. The incident took place in August last year in Chennai. Madhavan was attacked by two persons while travelling on a two-wheeler.
