Food poisoning in Lucknow, four kids die

     Lucknow: Four children of a family died and two others fell seriously ill due to food poisoning. Police sources said that the children complained of vomiting and stomachache after consuming spurious sweets and eggs for breakfast on Monday morning in Dal Khera village under Gosainganj police station area. The children were immediately admitted in a local hospital but they died later. The other two members of the same family, including their mother, are getting treatment at the hospital.

Repolling underway on 660 booths

     New Delhi: Repolling is being held on 660 booths in Gaya, Jehanabad, Bhojpur and Nawada districts of Bihar today. The Election Commission on Sunday ordered repolling in these stations. Repolling is also taking place on nine booths in Giridih district of Jharkhand. However, the repolling for the six booths in Haryana will be held on February 23 for three assembly constituencies of Haryana. Polling for the first phase of elections was held on February 3 for 64 seats in Bihar, all the 90 seats in Haryana and 24 seats in Jharkhand. About 45 per cent polling was reported during the repoll held on Sunday for 354 polling stations of Bihar and 50 per cent polling in 21 polling booths of Jharkhand, where a repoll was ordered by the EC. The EC had on Saturday ordered repolling in 354 polling booths in Bihar and 21 polling stations in Jharkhand following complaints of booth-grabbing, problems in EVMs, violence and other poll- related irregularities during the first phase of Assembly election on February 3. Repolling in Bihar was held in 31 booths of Bhagalpur, 29 in Banka, eight in Buxar, 87 in Rohtas, 10 in Kaimur, 105 in Aurangabad, 23 in Arwal and 61 in Jamui district. Repolling in Jharkhand was held at one polling booth in Barhi, Barkagaon, Mandu and Manika, two booths in Chatra, Gandey, Giridih, Latehar (two each), four in Jamua and in one polling booth in Simaria. Continuation of polling in four seats of Hazaribagh constituency also took place on Sunday as it had been closed before scheduled time on February 3. Those who missed it on the main polling day were allowed to cast their votes on Sunday.

Snow avalanche near Srinagar kills six ITBP jawans (Go To Top)

     Srinagar: Six jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were killed in a snow avalanche near the Jawahar tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway early today, official sources informed. The avalanche took away the hut in which ten ITBP personnel were posted on duty. Search operations were on to trace the remaining four jawans. The sources added that it has been snowing heavily in the area since last evening and about seven feet snow had accumulated near the tunnel area. More than 550 vehicles, including 200 light motor and passenger vehicles, were stranded between Banihal and Tunnel area due to heavy snowfall, which has caused slippery conditions on the arterial road.
