Five killed in Jehanabad, 4 by Naxals

     Jehanabad: In two separate incidents of killing in Jehanabad, four persons, including two women, were killed by Naxals and one RJD worker was killed by unidentified persons on late Sunday night. According to the police, heavily armed extremists raided Saidpur village under Kak police station and gunned down four persons. The victims were identified as Teni Manjhi, Ganouri Manjhi and their wives. RJD activist Pintoo Sharma was killed in Kandaul village under Hulasganj Police station. Police has launched search operation to nab the killers. According to the police, old enemity was stated to be the reason behind both the killing incidents. Meanwhile, amidst tight security, repolling in underway in 660 booths in the state, where voting was held on 3rd February. Election Commission had ordered the repoll following complaints of large-scale electoral irregularities and violence reported during Thursday`s balloting.

Naxals blast Mandal Development Office in Andhra (Go To Top)

     Hyderabad: Naxals of the CPI (Maoist) blew up a Mandal Development Office (MDO) on the outskirts of Govindarao pet village in Warangal district on Monday morning. Police said that a group of extremists went to the office, asked the watchman to come out and exploded the office by planting landmines. Peace talks and naxal violence are going hand in hand in the state. Naxals are alleging the government of killing their cadres in false encounters and the government is finding itself on a difficult pitch after the series of naxals killings in the state. The killing of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former minister Paritala Ravi by unidentified gunmen in Andra Pradesh in the last week of January had sparked violence across the state. At least seven people died last week in different Naxal attacks.

Riaz Muhammad to be next Pak foreign secretary (Go To Top)

     Islamabad: Pakistan's Ambassador to China Riaz Muhammad Khan will replace Riaz Khokhar as the foreign secretary of Pakistan on 15th February. The Daily Times quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Khan would land in the capital on February 11 to take charge from Khokhar, who will quit the office on February 15. The paper reported that large-scale reshuffle in the Foreign Office and Pakistan's missions abroad is in the offing. According to the sources, Additional Secretary Salman Bashir will be Pakistan's next ambassador to China and ambassador to Turky Sher Afgan will be appointed as a special secretary at the Foreign Ministry. Additional Secretary Hassan Sarmad is likely to be appointed as Pakistan's new ambassador to Spain. Sources said Pakistan's ambassador to Sweden was likely to be replaced with Additional Secretary Mohsin Hafeez. Additional Secretary Saeed Khalid will be Pakistan's new ambassador to Brussels after the retirement of Tariq Fatmi. The new foreign secretary would form a team of his choice and sources predicted that Pakistan's ambassador to Nepal Zamir Akram was likely to be recalled. They also said that the government was considering appointing additional secretary Asia-Pacific and additional secretary Americas at the Foreign Office.
