Navratilova pegs Sania amongst world's top

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza with Tennis icon Martina Navrotilova at the inauguration of the WTA Tennis Championship which began in Hyderabad on Monday.

Hyderabad: Tennis legend Martina Navratilova was all praise for Sania Mirza as she opened her campaign in the 140,000 dollars WTAHyderabad open with a news conference. Navratilova, who has won 167 singles and 174 doubles titles during her amazing career, said that Mirza had the talent to break into the world's top 50. "For Indian tennis for a longtime there were no women but now Sania is coming along and I am sure she will get into the top 50. She has very good talent and of course it is important for girls growing up to have role models not just male players but if they have a female player they can relate to, it makes a difference, makes them want to think they might want to do that too and makes them think it is possible," said Navratilova. Navratilova said she would give her best in the event. "Every tournament is important, every match is a preparation for the next one and for this on so I never go on the court, thinking oh well I don't really care that happens today. I am here always wanting to give my best and hopefully it you give your best it will be good enough to win, if its not then means the opponent played better. Regardless of where I play, when I play, with whom I am playing against whom I am playing I always give my best effort," she said. Mirza reached the third round of Australian Open last month, the first-ever by an Indian woman to last that far in a grand slam. Although former world number one Serena Williams ended her historic run, the 18-year-old Mirza won hearts of millions back home.
