Nanavati report in budget session (Go To Top)

Yamuna Nagar: Union Law Minister H R Bhardwaj today said the Nanavati Commission report on the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 would be tabled during the coming budget session of Parliament. He was replying to questions by journalists when on a visit to Mahakaleshwar mutt, about 45 km from here, for a 'Basant Panchmi' function. The Sikh community and opposition parties have been demanding that the report be "made public" ever since Justice G T Nanavati, a retired Supreme Court judge, submitted the two-volume, 185-page report to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil in New Delhi on Wednesday. An estimated 3,000 people were killed in the National Capital in the anti-Sikh riots that followed Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984. The commission of inquiry's report contains findings on whether any political party had organised the riots.
