GP Koirala's daughter to hold massive rally in Delhi

     New Delhi: Nepali Congress leader and daughter of former Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Sujata Koirala in her first meeting with Nepali migrants here, said that she would hold a massive rally on Feb 19 in Delhi. Holding meeting under the aegis of Nepali Jansampark Samiti, she said that the forum has not only decided to stage a massive dharna in front of the Nepalese Embassy in the capital, but also decided to launch a signature campaign in this regard. The forum also appealed to international human rights organizations to look into the state of affairs in the Himalayan kingdom following the clamp down across the country by King Gyanendra last week. "On 19th Feb we will have a big rally in Delhi. Feb 19 is our democracy day, but the King has taken over all our rights. Instead of that we will celebrate our democracy day," said Sujata Koirala. The General Secretary of the Nepali Jansampark Samiti, Tekraj Pokhre said that they are also in touch with people living in other countries also and will very soon launch worldwide campaign. "We are organising meetings and trying our best for the restoration of democracy in Nepal. All Nepalese living abroad have come together and through the help of media, we are trying to launch a massive agitation against the royal proclamation," said Pokhre

FIR against screening of riot CD during polls (Go To Top)

     Patna: The police on Sunday lodged an FIR against unknown persons in connection with the screening of the CDs containing footage of the post Godhra riots in Gujarat. The Superintendent of Police, Purnea, Sudhanshu Kumar said that the case was registered with the Rupali Police Station under various sections of the Representation of People's Act. He however, said that RJD's MLA from Rupali, Bima Bharti was not named as accused. "We are also investigating the role of Bima Bharti in connection of the case," said Kumar. Earlier, the Election Commission, had, following complaints about the CDs screening, directed the state's Electoral Officer to issue a notice to the ruling party returnable by 5 pm. on February 14, which was subsequently revised, following which, the CEO had asked the state RJD President to explain the "factual position on whether the display of such CDs was not violative of the model code."

Sankaracharya reports at police station (Go To Top)

     Chennai: The Junior Sankaracharya of Kanchi Mutt Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal on Sunday reported at a local police station in accordance to the directives of the Madras High Court. The Snamigal, co-accused in the sensational Sankaraman murder case, visiting a police station for the first time, appeared before the Thousand Lights police station and put his thumb impression due to the tradition that Peetathipadhis (mutt heads) normally do not sign in any paper or register. Heavy security arrangements were in place at the police station. In its bail order, the High Court had directed that the Swamigal must report at the police station every Sunday at 10 am. The Court had also directed the seer not to go out of the city. He has been staying at the Sri Kamakshiamman Temple Complex at Greenways road in south Chennai after coming out of the prison on bail. The Acharya was arrested on January 10 in connection with the Sankaraman murder case.
