Charles Camilla wedding officially announced legal (Go To Top)

London: The wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles has finally been declared legal. According to The Sun, Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer rejected claims that the civil ceremony would be invalid. He said the Government was "satisfied" that it is lawful for the couple to marry by a civil ceremony in accordance with Part III of the Marriage Act 1949. "We are aware that different views have been taken in the past; but we consider that these were over-cautious," he added. He also noted that the Human Rights Act requires legislation to be interpreted where possible in a way compatible with the right to marry and to enjoy that right without discrimination. "This, in our view, puts the modern meaning of the 1949 Act beyond doubt," he stated.

Lt. Col Paterson, on the other hand, has been made a full colonel even after telling a court that he had sanctioned "Operation Ali Baba" on the basis that the civilians had to "clear up the mess they created". Other promotions have followed for soldiers involved in the case. Sergeant Major Wilton Brown, who allegedy gave a direct order to "beast" prisoners, has since been promoted to Regimental Sergeant Major of a West Midlands Territorial Army unit.

It's a very nasty drug," the New York Post quoted the British supermodel as saying on US TV show Prime Time Live. "I think what is very scary about cocaine is that you start to feel too confident and you start to feel indispensable, although none of us are indispensable," said 34-year old Campbell, while adding that she first took cocaine at the age of 24. Campbell's erratic behaviour had recently become out-of-control, as she was reported to have spitefully attacked several of her staff.

South Indian pedigree attracts Westeners (Go To Top)

Rajapalyam (Tamil Nadu): Westerners are now looking towards India to provide them with a perfect option for a pet. Pet lovers in France, Germany and Greece, are demanding one of the lesser-known and oldest Indian breeds of dogs, native to the town of Rajapalyam in Tamil Nadu. A pair of this adorable snow- white breed comes at a price of 4000 rupees, and they can adapt themselves to any climatic condition. Measuring four feet in height, the dogs with silky hair and a rosy nose are capable of very high speed. However, kennel owners say that they are unable to meet the rising demands for Rajapalyam dogs that are known to be efficient guard dogs. "We are getting a lot of enquiries but are not able to meet them due to financial problems we are not able to maintain more breeds. Right now we have only 10 breeds here. There is a requirement of at least 50 breeds but we are doing only 20 breeds per month. So there is a shortage," said Ashok Kumar, a local dog breeder. Generally a carnivore breed, it can also be raised on a vegetarian diet. The locals have established a co-operative, and interested families are given female dogs and the required expertise for large scale breeding of the dogs. Gaining in popularity, the Rajapalyam breed also features on a recently released postage stamp.

World's shortest woman in Pak (Go To Top)

Karachi: Parents of Saba Kanwal, a 19-year Pakistani girl, claim that she is the world's shortest woman measuring 26.5 inches (67 cm). Weighing 6.5 kg only, Saba appears like a living doll. According to a news report in September 2004, a Chinese teenager Zhu Haizhen, 79 centimetres tall, was reportedly confirmed as the world's shortest woman by an official record association in Shanghai. Zhu Haizhen had been included in the Guinness World Records as the shortest adult woman in the world. Saba has six sisters and a brother. She is the youngest daughter in her family. "She is the shortest girl in the world. She is certainly a gift of God. Pakistan has the honour that it had the tallest man in the world. And now this shortest girl is also here in Pakistan", Manzoor Ahmad, Kanwal's father, a retired record-keeper from a bank who is hardly pulling on his family, told the press, proudly. Manzoor said that no one in his family had below average height. All his six daughters and a son are normal in height.

Born in October 1985 in Orangi Town in a poor family in Karachi, Kanwal was such a tiny creature at the time of her birth that she could easily be held in the palm. Kanwal's mother Aasia Khatoon said: "At the time of her birth she hardly weighed a pound. I held her in my palm.......she was this much. When I saw her feet just drawn to this line of my palm, I measured her this way. Then I measured everything of her. Her fingers were like rice, white and unripe. I measured her foot that was hardly more than an inch. Her aunt put her finger-ring in her wrist like a bangle. She was so small that no clothes of her size were available. My sister-in-law stitched a dress for her, when I took it off after a couple of days, I washed it and kept it in a match-box." The mother further said that Kanwal's growth was very slow and sometimes it looked she was not growing at all. Unfortunately, Kanwal fell ill last year. She suffered from Pyogenic Meningitis as a result of which one of her hand and a foot were paralysed. Also her speech was affected by the disease. Aasia Khatoon added: "She is fond of wearing new dresses. She changes her dress four times daily, every time a new dress. She craves for shopping and going to markets. She wishes she had lot of money. She likes to have new bangles, shoe and everything."
