EC warns striking Bihar employees

     Patna: Although Bihar is scheduled to go for assembly polls next month, the state secretariat continues to wear a deserted look with 10,000 employees still on strike. It's expected that the state's administration would land in a crisis if the striking staff don't come back to work, as not only will it hamper the work, but the state will also be short of staff during the upcoming elections. Bihar has approximately 50,000 polling stations. On the other hand, the staff members on strike are refusing to relent.

Forensic lab reports, girl in porn CD not Anara (Go To Top)

     New Delhi: The Hyderabad-based forensic lab, which was investigating the porn CD reportedly featuring former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta, has said that the female in the video film is not Anara. The pornographic Video CD was seized by the police and sent to Hyderabad-based forensic lab to check its authenticity. The lab examined the VCD to check whether the girl featuring in the movie was Anara Gupta. Anara repeatedly denied that she had in any way featured in the CD. She also slapped a suit demanding one crore rupees as damages from the police as compensation for arresting and keeping her under police custody under the Immoral Trafficking Act. Anara's mother in a petition to the National Commission for Women (NCW) had demanded a CBI probe and has said that the girl in the porn film was not her daughter. "I told the Commission how my entire family was kept in illegal detention for 11 days and tortured by police. It was when Anara could no longer bear to see her mother being beaten up that she said she was involved in the making of the CD," said Raj Rani, Anara's mother after meeting the NCW Chairperson, Poornima Advani on December 25. "The girl in the CD is very different from Anara. There is no resemblance," she added. The report of the Hyderabad forensic lab has now given a new turn to the case. The lab said that the woman seen in the porn films that landed Anara behind bars is not Anara.

Sankararaman case: Mutt accountant arrested (Go To Top)

     Kanchipuram: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested the accountant of the Sankara mutt, Vishwanathan, in the Sankararaman murder case. . Interestingly, the arrest came on a day when the police withdrew summons against Vijayendra Saraswathi, the junior acharya of the Kanchi mutt. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu police has decided to challenge the bail granted to the Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi in the assault case.

TN Government challenges seer's bail (Go To Top)

     New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu Government today filed an appeal challenging the Madras High Court decision to grant bail to the Kanchi Sankaracharya in the Radhakrishnan assault case. The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice RC Lahoti with a request to hear the Special Leave Petition along with the bail petition filed by the seer in the Sankararaman murder case. However, the court declined to do the same and asked for a fresh appeal, which would be heard separately.
