All funds raised from the match would go for carrying out relief work in the tsunami-hit areas in South and Southeast Asia. Of all the members of the Asia XI, Jayasuriya is among the most personally affected by the tsunami, The Age reported. Admitting that leaving his homeland at this hour (of devastation) would be difficult, the former skipper said: "Yes it will be........but I know that my family is OK and that this game is for people affected in all of Sri Lanka." He added: "So even though I will be away, we know it will help. We will do anything to help Sri Lanka at the moment. A lot of fishermen near me lost their lives. The kind of money we will raise from this game will help."

Aussies want to adopt tsunami affected children (Go To Top)

Sydney: Following last week's killer tsunami wave, which has left thousands of children in several Asian countries homeless and parentless, hundreds of couples in Australia are now showing interest in adopting these children. However, authorities in the tsunami affected countries like Sri Lanka and Thailand are saying that they are not in a hurry to send the children abroad till things are more settled, reports The Daily Telegraph. Authorities also think that the children, who have already gone through so much trauma, should not be displaced from their natural surroundings and they are hoping that some of the children's parents would turn up sooner or later. "We believe children are best left where they are in environments that are familiar to them, in a culture that's familiar to them, speaking a language that they know, and in the schools that they're already going to. To uplift them out of their country to Australia or anywhere else would be an absolute last resort," said the UNICEF Australia chief executive Carolyn Hardy.
