Macca donates 1 million pounds for tsunami victims

     London: Sir Paul McCartney has donated 1 million pounds for the tsunami victims in Asia. The former Beatles star and wife Heather Mills have announced that their contribution had already been sent to the aid agencies working to help people caught up in the disaster. "Like most people they were moved by the devastation. They wanted to do their bit to help and be part of the British effort," a source close to the couple was quoted, as saying.

Sting performs in Thailand to help tsunami victims (Go To Top)

     London: Veteran rocker Sting has become the first artist to perform in Thailand after it was left devastated by the giant tsunami wave that hit it last month, and the proceeds from the show will go to the people whose lives have been shattered by tsunami. The former 'Police' singer reportedly raised 50,000 dollars, including a 20,000 dollars donation from himself and hopes to raise 50,000 dollars more for the victims, from oncoming concerts in India and Australia. Latino singer Ricky Martin has also visited Thailand, meeting survivors and touring affected beaches in Phuket and Patong. Martin, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), appealed to fellow celebrities to help victims of the disaster. "To all my colleagues, let's do something. It's all about talking about things that need to be done to create a better world, especially for the generations to come," BBC quoted him as saying. Some of the other famous people contributing for tsunami victims include singers Celine Dion and Peter Garrett.

Shift seer's case out of Tamil Nadu: Advani (Go To Top)

     New Delhi: BJP president and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has asked to shift the Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati's case out of Tamil Nadu. Advani gave the call after his arrival in Nagpur to attend the second day of the RSS chintan baithak. BJP has been protesting against the arrest of the seer since the day he was arrested. BJP leadership also organised protests in Delhi against the seer's arrest, in which senior leaders like Vajpayee and Advani participated. Senior BJP leaders Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Sushma had visited Vellore prisons to meet the seer. BJP even dispatched senior party Sushma Swaraj to receive the seer when he was freed from the jail.
