Three army personnel killed in Badgam encounter

     Srinagar: Three army personnel, including a major, have been killed in an encounter in Badgam district. Meanwhile, the army has blown up the house in which the militants were holed up. The encounter, which claimed the life of three army personnel, broke out on Thursday evening after a combined operation by the Rashtriya rifles and police party was launched on specific information that three militants were hiding in the area. Immediate reinforcements have been rushed and the entire area has been cordoned off. However, the casualty from the militants side is yet unknown. The forces received information that three militants were hiding in the area.

British, Thai embassies in Indonesia close after bomb alert (Go To Top)

     Jakarta: The British and Thai embassies in Indonesia were closed on Friday after bomb threats that sparked a major security alert in the world's largest Muslim-populated country as it struggled to cope with the tsunami disaster. According to The News, the British embassy shuttered its building in Jakarta's central business district and closed a consular facility in a neighbouring office block that is home to several foreign media organisations and near hotels frequented by Westerners.

Myanmar to export natural gas to India (Go To Top)

     Yangoon: The Government of Myanmar has agreed to export natural gas to India by pipeline through the territory of Bangladesh and India to be operated by an international consortium as may be agreed by the parties concerned, based upon technical and commercial feasibility. This was decided in a tripartite Ministerial meet that was held in Yangon on Januray 12-13, 2005. The Minister of Energy of Myanmar, Brig Gen Lun Thi, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Minister of State for Energy of Bangladesh, AKM Mosharraf Hossain, attended the meet.
