SAARC summit to be held in Dhaka on Feb 6-7

Dhaka: Bangladesh Foreign Minister M. Morshed Khan said today, the postponed summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be held in Bangladesh on February 6 and 7. "The summit will take place on February 6 and 7 subject to an announcement by the chair (of SAARC which is held by Pakistan)", Khan said. The summit had been due to take place between January 9-11, but Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia deferred the seven-nation meeting in the wake of the Tsunami disaster which killed more than 160,000 people along Indian ocean coastlines.

Inflation comes down to 5.78 pc (Go To Top)

New Delhi: After soaring for nearly seven months above the 6 per cent mark, inflation fell below the 6 per cent mark, to 5.78 per cent during the week ended January 1. The fall is being attributed mainly to the fall in prices of fuels, vegetables and fruits, edible oils and other food items. The Wholesale Price Index based inflation fell by 0.61 per cent during the review week from 6.39 per cent in the previous week despite a rise in manufactured products prices. Various measures taken by the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank helped bring down the inflation to 5.78 per cent, lower than 6.45 per cent a year ago.
