Kalam orders nurse's reinstatement (Go To Top)

New Delhi: President APJ Abdul Kalam on Wednesday turned saviour when he asked authorities in Uttar Pradesh to re- employed a sacked nurse who had lost her job for breaching the presidential security in Lucknow. Archana Saxena, 18, had broken the security cordon of the President during his visit to Rudahi village on the outskirts of Lucknow on Friday to petition the First Citizen of the country to save her father, who she believed faced a threat to his life. Kalam was distributing cheques to meritorious students at Rudahi in Bakshi-ka-talab area when Saxena broke the security cordon. Kalam asked Lucknow District Magistrate Aradhna Shukla to ensure that the nurse, who was employed with a private hospital, was not harassed and should be reinstated. ''The President's office spoke to the Lucknow DM over phone twice since the incident and the latter has deputed a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to look into the matter and report back,'' a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said.
