MK Narayanan appointed new NSA

     New Delhi: MK Narayanan was on Tuesday appointed the new National Security Advisor. Narayanan was officiating as the NSA after the death of J N Dixit earlier this month. The order appointing him as the NSA has been issued, media advisor to Prime Minister Sanjay Baru said.

Rajyavardhan Rathore gets AVSM

     New Delhi: Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has been awarded the country's second highest defence award for distinguished service, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, in Presidential Honours announced on the eve of the 56th Republic Day. This is for the first time that that a services officer of a battalion commander rank has been honoured with the AVSM. Rathore said, "I am overwhelmed by this recognition.... coming from the finest army in the World," "I have a special feeling....which can't be put in words. This should inspire others to reach sporting heights.'' Rathore, who has the distinction of being India's only Individual Silver medal winner in the Olympics, has alrerady been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Dixit, Premji honoured with Padma awards (Go To Top)

     New Delhi: This year's list of Padma awards has been announced. The Padma Vibhushan awards have been given to nine people, including cartoonist RK Laxman, former National Security Advisor late JN Dixit, Congress leader Karan Singh, Attorney General Milon Kumar Banerji and noted social worker Mohan Dharia. Among this year's Padma Bhushans and Padma Shris are filmstar Shahrukh Khan, Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, social worker Gladys Staines and Vice Chairperson of Hindustan Times Shobhana Bhartia.
