Luther Vandross passes away

     Washington: Grammy award winner Luther Vandross, who was felled by a stroke in April 2003 at his Manhattan apartment, breathed his last on Friday at a New Jersey hospital. He was 54. The singer, whose hits include 'Power of Love', 'Here and Now' and 'Always and Forever', released his final album 'Dance with My Father' in 2003, which grabbed four Grammy Awards, including 'Song of the Year' for the title cut. According to E!Online, although Vandross appeared in a taped message at the 2004 Grammys and on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show', he never resumed his recording or performing career. In all he won eight Grammys and sold more than 25 million albums.

     London: Penelope Cruz is all set to send shock waves through the fashion circle by wearing" vulgar, cheap clothes" in director Pedro Almodovar's new movie. "The woman I play in Volver is the one in her family who works. Her husband doesn't have a job- and she has three. But this woman is still sexy. Her energy is sexy and I think when a woman doesn't know she is sexy she is powerful. The thing with PD was not an answer to what I will wear in Pedro's film, she has had a rough life- and fabulous clothes are the last thing she thinks about," The Daily Mail quoted her as saying.

Harry Potter hires 600 trucks to reach bookstores (Go To Top)

      Washington: The latest Harry Potter novel 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' has evoked so much interest in fans that the publishing company has printed 10.8 million copies of it, and it will take some 600 trucks to make sure that bookstores have enough copies of the book. According to Zap2It, the book is set to hit the markets on July 16 and Scholastic Inc is confident that there is an ample audience out there for the book. "The Scholastic team coordinates a mammoth logistical and security effort so that fans can all come to 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' at the same time and discover the magic and mystery of the new book in a nationwide shared reading experience," the report quoted Barbara Marcus, executive vice president at Scholastic, as saying. More than 5,000 bookstores have planned special midnight events to celebrate the book's release and the Times Square Jumbotron in New York City will do a countdown beginning the day before. Fans would be able to buy their copies after the gala opening. "What we are hearing from the retailers is that those who didn't have a midnight party last time are planning one, and those who held one last time are making it even bigger and better," Marcus said.

     London: Drew Barrymore has said that she would love to make another 'Charlie's Angels' film and is convinced that her co-stars Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu would also be keen to feature in it. "I know Cameron, Lucy and I would all sign up if there was, but there are no plans in the works. All three of us still hang out all the time anyway, so we might as well be filming it," Fox News quoted her as saying to Teenhollywood.

      London: 'Titanic' beauty Kate Winslet is all set to play a Nazi-battling nun in Ricky Gervais' new comedy 'Extras'. While Ricky plays struggling acting extra Andy Milman in the show, Ben Stiller, Samuel L Jackson and Patrick Stewart have also been lined up to star in it. "Kate Winslet plays a nun hiding people for the Nazis and I approach her to ingratiate myself and try and get a line," Fox News quoted Rickey as saying to The Sun.

     London: Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has been spotted purchasing a baby's cot from Harrod's store in London, thereby strengthening rumours that she is having Brad Pitt's baby. The actress, 30, was also seen recently, buying clothes for newborns at the swanky London store, reports The Sun.

     London: Jennifer Aniston, who is still legally married to Pitt, is reportedly completely devastated at the thought of Pitt starting a new family with Angelina Jolie. Speculations about Pitt's relationship with Jolie have been rife since his separation from wife Aniston, and friends now claim that the ongoing episode has taken its toll on her. "She has taken it hard. She just can't let it go. She can't stand the thought that Brad could be starting a family with another woman while they're still legally married", a source was quoted as telling Britain's Daily Star.

Liz Hurley loves Arun's 'gentle loyal soul' (Go To Top)

      London: British model turned actress Elizabeth Hurley has compared her fiance Arun Nayyar to good pal and former lover Hugh Grant. "In many ways, he is not dissimilar to Hugh. They're both incredibly kind, gentle, loyal souls...good people. I'm attracted to that", The Mirror quoted her as saying. The 40-year-old actress, who has a three-year-old son Damian, is keen to have another child and has confessed that Nayyar has completely changed her views on marriage. Hurley, who plans to marry Nayyar in India next February, has also admitted that this would be the first time that marriage would be important for her. "It's never been something I felt I needed to do. But I now see the emotions involved in a way that I never really understood before", she was quoted as telling Marie Claire magazine.
