Mazar of ninth heir of Prophet found

     Samana (Punjab): A 500-year-old Mazar of Saiyyad Asad Ali, son of Imam Ali Raza, ninth heir of Prophet Mohammad has been found in Samana, 28 kilometers from Patiala in Punjab. The information about its finding was announced at a press conference by Maulana Kalbe Zwad, religious leader of Shia community, who arrived here from Lucknow along with some historians and diplomats from Iran Embassy. All the facts related to it have been confirmed with the old religious books. It is believed that after Makka-Madina, this Mazar may become the second biggest religious place of the Shia community as no such belonging of Prophet Mohammad's heir was not present in India and Pakistan until now. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amrinder Singh, has ordered the concerned authorities to start working on the site immediately so that it could be declared a sacred place.

Outlook faces Rs 500 cr notice from Swami Ramdev (Go To Top)

     New Delhi: Divya Yoga Mandir (Trust) headed by yoga guru Swami Ramdev has issued a notice to Hindi weekly magazine Outlook for allegedly tarnishing his image and economic damage and has demanded Rs 500 crore as compensation. Hindi weekly magazine "Outlook" dated 13th June 2005 has a cover story on the way medicines are manufactured in the Divya Pharmacy run by Swami Ramdev. The article titled "Nahin Dagmagaya Aasan" alleges that the medicines prepared in Divya Pharmacy contain human skull and organs of human beings and animals. It quoted some of the employees of the Pharmacy who are involved in the preparation of medicines and bringing the raw materials. "The allegations made in the article are outrageous, preposterous and baseless," said Adish C. Aggarwala, Advocate of Swami Ramdev who has issued the legal notice on behalf of Divya Yoga mandir (Trust).

Ex-President's wife told to leave Bangladesh (Go To Top)

     Dhaka: The Bangladesh government has reportedly tipped Bidisha Ershad, the wife of ex-President and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad who was arrested yesterday, that she would be set free of the charges if she decides to quit politics and settle abroad. Bidisha was arrested on charges of stealing her husband's mobile and vandalizing his house. According to Bangladesh daily The Daily Star, she has been tipped that she may be allowed a safe passage abroad in exchange for her stepping aside from politics.

      Meanwhile, Ershad on Monday announced his divorce from Bidisa, his second wife. He charged her with theft, cheating, attempt to murder, criminal breach of trust and criminal intimidation. Ershad, who also the president of Bangladesh's second largest opposition party, the Jatiya Party, made his announcement at the Zia International Airport shortly before his departure for Jeddah to perform the Umrah and to undergo a series of medical checkups. Earlier,he had sacked Bidisa from the Jatiya Party and filed a case with police.

Maruti lays foundation stone for new plant at Manesar (Go To Top)

     Manesar: The country's car major the Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) today laid the foundation stone for its new plant at Manesar, located on the outerskirts of Gurgaon. While MUL will hold 70 percent equity in the plant, Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation will hold the remaining 30 percent. It will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 15,242 million. The company, which initially began producing cars in 1984, presently has three car plants at its existing factory at Gurgaon. Set under a joint venture company "Matruti Suzuki Automobiles India Limited, the new plant which will begin commercial production by the end of 2006, said the company sources. It will enhance the production capacity of the company by nearly one lakh units per annum, though it would be having the capacity to scale the production up to 2.5 lakh per year. According to company sources, the new plant will directly employ nearly 900 people, besides creating employment and wealth across the value chain covering suppliers, local community, manual and knowledge workers, transporters, financers, and sales and service support. Haryana Chief Bhupinder Singh Hooda laid the foundation stone of the company, while Japanese ambassador Yasukuni Enoki was the guest of honour at the occasion.

36 killed in landmine blast triggered  (Go To Top)
by Maoists in Nepal

     Kathmandu: As many as 36 persons were killed and 72 were wounded in a landmine blast in Chitwan district in western Nepal today. According to sources, the incident occured when a passenger bus travelling from Madi to Bharatpur passed over the mine, triggerring off the explosion. Maoists had laid the mine, intending to blast off military vehicles passing over the area. Further details are awaited.

UK postpones referendum on EU Constitution (Go To Top)

     London: Taking lessons from last week's overwhelming rejection of the European Constitution by voters in France and the Netherlands, the UK has postponed the referendum till next spring. Announcing the decision, Jack Straw, UK foreign secretary, in a statement to parliament said, " We reserve completely the right to bring back the bill providing for a UK referendum should circumstances change. But we see no point in proceeding at this moment." He added "It is not for the UK alone to decide the future of the treaty." EU heads of government leaders are preparing for a summit next week in Brussels to discuss some way out of the crisis. Earlier, Tony Blair's spokesman said: "We are in uncertain times and we do not proceed until we have got certainty." French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder are urging other members, including the UK, to continue the ratification process.
