Siwan DM issues arrest warrant against Shahabuddin

Patna: Siwan District Magistrate Santhosh Kumar Mal has issued arrest warrant against controversial RJD MP from Siwan, Mohammad Shahabuddin for his repeated non-appearance before the court despite a series of summons. The Siwan Superintendent of Police Ratn Sanjay has been instructed to nab the local MP and produce him before the court by 1st of July. Mal's predecessor C K Anil who had debarred Shahabuddin during the polls from entering his constituency had ordered that he be booked under the Crime Control Act (CCA). However, Shahabuddin said that the order of the District Magistrate will be challenged in a higher court. "I want to say only this much that this incident has come against the special rights of the elected representatives act. I condemn it. As far as my presence is concerned and warrant, I will appeal in a high court. I have earlier got relief from a higher court. I have been released by the commissioner in a similar case. As far as the ego of the District Magistrate is concrened, I don't think the procedure is correct. A DM cannot invoke the Crime Control Act against an elected representative. He can not force the representative to appear in his court. My lawyer has a right to represent my case. The witness should be questioned first. I have to talk to my lawyer," said Shahabuddin. Shahabuddin is facing more than 40 criminal cases involving murder, abduction, possession of illegal arms and a host of other charges. He is also suspected of having connections with the Pakistani intelligence ISI and the notorious international gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

Mumbai has copious rainfall  (Go To Top)

Mumbai: Residents of the country's commercial capital today enjoyed heavy showers as delayed monsoon rains advanced over several regions of western India. The city had experienced a brief spell on Sunday. The monsoon, a key factor determining economic growth, normally hits the city on June 10, but this year rains have come more than nine days late. People parked their vehicles near the seashore and enjoyed the high waves. Children wore their bright raincoat and splashed in the water. Some residents even bunked office to enjoy the rainfall with their families. "We have come here to enjoy the rains after taking leave from officer. My wife is also liking it very much," said Sudhir. "The children enjoyed very much and now they are feeling cold so they are sitting in the car. But I am enjoying this very much," said Sheila. The four-month monsoon struck Kerala on June 5, after a delay of four days, and advanced over parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa, where it has been virtually stuck since June 8. The monsoon advanced to the northeastern region last week but has not moved further. The Met department said the average rainfall over the country in the first two weeks of the monsoon season was 59 percent below normal. The monsoon was 67 percent below normal in the second week and 51 percent below normal in the first week.

Amarinder is Khalistan sympathiser: Opposition (Go To Top)

Chandigarh: Opposition parties in Punjab have accused State Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh of being a terrorist sympathiser, showing off pictures of him giving a speech in the backdrop of posters hailing the Khalistan movement. BJP today paraded before the media the newspaper clippings of Singh at a Sikh shrine during his Canada visit this year, alleged to be a militant hub. The poster shows Singh standing right in front of huge banner hailing "Khalistan", as proof enough according the opposition leaders, that his Congress party is trying to create a dangerous poll agenda. The BJP has demanded Singh's resignation and the matter be given to the CBI. Although the Sikh separatist movement, which was at its peak in the 1980s and early 1990s, has now all but disappeared, some Sikh militant groups remain active, security experts say. Analysts have warned the rebels, armed with latest technology and links with Islamic rebels, can hit back with twice the ferocity.
