Pakistan at 165/ 5 on opening day of warm-up match

Dharamsala: Pakistan made 165 at the loss of five wickets on the opening day of their first warm-up match against Board President's XI today in Dharamsala. Only 45 overs of play could be possible as frequent rains interrupted the match. Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who celebrated his birthday today, chose to bat after winning the toss. A. Kamal top scored with 43 runs not out when the day's match was called off. Inzamam made 35 before he fell leg before to V. Rao. The Board's XI is being led by Mohammed Kaif, who has not been considered for the first Test to be played in Mohali next week. Inzamam later said he was bowled over by the hospitality of Indians who brought a cake for him. "This kind of birthday celebrations do not take place even in Pakistan, the way the people of Dharamsala have done it. I am very happy," he said. Earlier, despite poor weather, a large number of people turned out to see the big match, the first-ever in this part of the country. There was a huge support for the Pakistanis too, as the cricket buffs wanted to see their heroes.

Another biography on Sachin (Go To Top)

Mumbai: "Sachin Tendulkar: A Definitive Biography", a book written on the master blaster by an upcoming author Vaibhav Purandare, was released by former cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar here last evening. Purandare claims the book to be a comprehensive elucidation of Tendulkar's life. The book puts Tendulkar, the cricketer and a human being, in perspective without being just a score-book or an accumulation of hard facts. It claims to probe the journey of a teenage boy to a master blaster cricketer. "It tells his entire story along with rare and unpublished anecdotes. It has beautiful pictures that tell a story of their own and a detailed analysis of his game and a game exemplified by Sachin Tendulkar and it examines his role in the history of the game and places him in the context of international cricket tradition," Purandare said. Sachin's former team-mate Sanjay Manjrekar, cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, and Tendulkar's coach Ramkanth Achrekar were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Gavaskar said that hopefully down the years the batting genius would come out with an autobiography. "Dozens of biographies are written, but one day hopefully he will sit down and write his own book so that we will know from him what kind of a player he is," Gavaskar said. Incidentally, Tendulkar was not present on the occasion as he is busy preparing for the upcoming home series against Pakistan. Born on April 24, 1973 in Bombay, Tendulkar is widely regarded as the world's best contemporary batsman and holds world record for ODI runs and ODI centuries. Tendulkar is ranked second in both all-time Test and one-day lists by Wisden, behind Australia's Don Bradman and West Indies' Viv Richards respectively. He has so far scored a world record of 37 centuries in one-dayers.
