Godhra's Pak Hindu migrants granted citizenship

Godhra (Gujarat): As many as 45 Pakistani Hindus who had migrated to Gujarat around a decade back have finally realised their cherished dream of becoming Indian citizens. The group of eight families, who refused to go back to Pakistan fearing prosecution on religious grounds, today received their citizenship documents from the local administration. For years they were living with fear of being deported back, but now smiles are back on their faces. "We had given an application for past so many years and now we have finally been granted. We are very happy about it," said a delighted Durga Devi Luhana. These migrants say the citizenship has come as a respite for them as they were treated as second-class citizens. According to them, now they would now be able to enjoy their voting rights too. Godhra District Magistrate DH Brahmbhatt said that the approval for granting them the country's citizenship came from the Central Government. He said: "They have been given the citizenship certificates and I am very hopeful their future stay in India will be quite comfortable and they will be looking forward to a prosperous future. They are very happy." According to rough estimates, over 3000 such migrants are living in Rajasthan, it being the biggest state near the Pakistan border. These migrants too fear for life if they return to Pakistan.

Pak bundled at 312, Balaji strikes hard (Go To Top)

Mohali: With the Indian paceman Balaji hitting the Pakistani batsman hard, Pakistan team was bundled on 312 runs on the first day of Mohali test between the two arch rivals. Balaji took five for seventy-six and ripped the Pakistan team apart with his pace and accuracy. It was obviously not a good start for Pakistan but 91 by Asim Kamal prevented the hosts from taking all the honours on the opening day. Earlier, in the day Indian captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and invited the Pakistan team to bat first. His decision paid off as the Indian pacers exploited the helpful paceman's track to halt Pakistan at 312. Paksitani innings saw contributions from left-handed Kamal, Captain Inzamam-ul Haq (57) and Taufeeq Umar (44). It was the defiant resistance by the Pakistani tailenders which helped the team cross the 300-mark.
