John Travolta to tell all about princess Diana (Go To Top)

London: Hollywood's action man John Travolta is all set to divulge details of his brief friendship with princess Diana, in his autobiography. "I'm writing my book. If I wait any longer, it'll be two memoirs and I can't do that. I guess for readers in England the most interesting thing is going to be the stuff about Princess Diana," Travolta was quoted by Thisislondon as saying. "It will include a lot of things I've never discussed with anybody," he added. The 'Grease' star met Diana in 1985 at a party hosted by President Ronald Reagan and asked for a dance after the hosts told Travolta that Diana was longing to dance with him. Recollecting details of that evening Travolta said "I was at the lowest point of my career and yet in that room I felt like a frog who had been turned into a prince. I timidly crept over and said, 'Excuse me, princess, would you care to dance?' And she dipped her head and looked up at me and she blushed. Then she said, 'I would love to'. "As they started playing songs from my movies they all left the floor. We were dancing alone. I said, 'God, we're in the middle of the floor with the whole world watching!' We had the time of our lives," he added.

Something creepy is about to happen to Harry Potter (Go To Top)

The cover shows Harry and Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore peering into a basin emanating a green light, which leads one to conjecture that Harry and his mentor may be trying to see the future. "For the cover of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,' the mood of the art is truly eerie," says artist Mary GrandPre, creator of artwork for the Harry Potter series, was quoted by Zap2it.com. "I wanted the colours to be strong and I chose upward lighting and dramatic shadows to convey a kind of surreal place and time," she added. "Individually, each jacket is like a concentrated visual taste of the book inside, and collectively they form a portrait gallery of a boy growing up very much in the public eye" Arthur Levine, Vice President, Arthur A. Levine Books, Scholastic and editor of the Harry Potter books said. "Half-Blood Prince" is the penultimate volume in the seven-book children's series that picks up where the previous installment left off.

Fizzy drinks can erode your teeth (Go To Top)

London: Fizzy drinks have the potential to erode teeth as it can dissolve tooth enamel and the hard dentine underneath, exposing the pulp, according to a new research. Rehydrating sports drinks are up to 30 times more erosive to teeth than water, say researchers at the University of Birmingham. They added sports drinks had high acidity levels designed to increase their shelf life. "There's two reasons why athletes are more at risk," Dr Asker Jeukendrup, who was part of the research team, said. "The first is that when they exercise their saliva production is reduced. They get a drier mouth and that increases erosion. The second reason is that because athletes sweat a lot they lose a lot of fluid and they have to replenish that fluid, so they drink more than most people," he added. "It's also important to remember that similar erosive problems can occur when drinking fruit juices or fizzy drinks," Dr Tony Smith, head of research at the University of Birmingham's School of Dentistry said.

Exposure to violence is harmful for kids' health (Go To Top)

Washington: Exposure to violence or maltreatment within the family or community gives rise to traumatic stress reactions in children, which can lead to their poor health, claims a new study. According to the study, published in The Journal of Pediatrics, Dr. Sandra Graham-Bermann and Dr. Julia Seng from the University of Michigan examined whether traumatic stress reactions in children due to adverse childhood experiences also play a role in predicting their health. They interviewed mothers and teachers of 160 children of age four to six, and found that 65 percent of the children were exposed to at least one incident of violence in their communities. Almost 47 percent were exposed to at least one incident of violence in their families, such as child maltreatment and domestic violence. While 90 percent of those exposed to some form of violence had reactions characterized as traumatic stress, for instance, having nightmares, thumb-sucking, bed-wetting, nearly 20 percent were at high risk for developing post traumatic stress disorder. Nearly one-third of the children had allergies, asthma, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The researchers also indicated that substance abuse and the overall health of the mother were factors in predicting children's health problems. The researchers conclude that preventing family and community violence may be beyond the control of health care providers, but clinical interventions to increase the mothers' safety and health may improve their ability to protect their children.
