Betting racket busted in Raipur

Raipur: Raipur police on Tuesday busted a hi-tech cricket betting racket involved in the ongoing cricket test series between India and Pakistan at Mohali. Two people were arrested with computers, phones, printer, pendrive, a luxury accent car, a tape recorder, some audio- cassettes, a UPS and a scooter. Police said that the racket was being operated with a strong network in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Nagpur. The racket was operational for the past five years on national as well as international level. Acting on a tip-off, police raided an apartment from where the two accused were arrested. The two, who operated from the same apartment, did not employ any assistants and handled their own account. Police say that the accused used hi-end electronic gadgetry to record transactions, which is more difficult to track. "We got the information that betting will continue till the start of the India Pakistan match. When we raided we found a pen drive in which a software is loaded. The software has all the information of money transaction and their hawala operation. The information fed in the software predicts like how many runs are expected after 10 overs. Today, the test match in Mohali, 357 crores rupees had been bet by the 7th over," said Ashok Juneja, Senior police official. One of the arrested men said there were other people involved in the racket. "There are a lot of people involved in the gang. Raipur is such a big city. If there are four people, then we have four customers. I am not the leader; there are other people also along with us. We are not involved in any 'hawala'," said Pramil Sagar, one of the two accused.

Balaji thanks Lillie for his sensational comeback (Go To Top)

Lahore: Laxmi Balaji, the star of the first day of Mohali match, has thanked Australian fast bowling legend Dennis Lillie for helping him in making a sensational comeback and said that Lillie's advice ensured his quick recovery from injury. "I followed his advice and changed my action a bit because of the injury. But I am comfortable bowling with the changed action and I was bowling with a good rhythm today," the Daily Times quoted Balaji as saying. The 23-year old paceman was out of the field since last September and felt very happy about hitting Pak batsman hard. "It always feels good to perform against them because cricket against them is always competitive and challenging. The pitch today offered some seam and I tried to cut the ball and it worked," the paper quoted him as saying. Last year at Rawalpindi, Balaji had recorded his career best of 4 for 63 against Pakistan, and was hugely popular amongst the crowds during that trip.
