India cheapest in the world for film tickets (Go To Top)

     London: If you think that watching a movie in a cinema hall in India is really expensive, then think twice, as a new research has revealed that India and the US are the cheapest countries to buy cinema tickets, when taken as a ratio to earnings. According to the Cinema Index from market researcher Screen Digest, film tickets in India cost an average of 0.19 dollars, which means that movie goers here have to work for just 16 minutes to earn enough to buy a ticket, reports the BBC. In India, workers earn an average of 0.70 dollars an hour, whereas across the globe, the average working time needed to pay for cinema admission is 57 minutes.

     London: Supermodel Naomi Campbell has revealed that it was a sense of abandonment within her family, which made her self-destructive. Blaming her fatherless childhood for her tantrums and cocaine abuse, Naomi said that her mother was a professional dancer whose career often took her away from home. "My root cause, my root cause is abandonment, which a lot of people can identify with. Abandonment, because my mom had to go to work, and my dad, we never met. (It was) not physical abuse, no. But feeling abandoned, for a young child, is mental abuse," Hello magazine quoted Naomi as saying on a TV interview. "I don't want to be in that pain again... I don't want to be just crying hysterically without taking a breath because I'm just so, so unhappy. I don't have any reason to be unhappy at the end of the day," she added.

     London: Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts has turned to meditation in a bid to combat tiredness and cope with the pressures of bringing up twin babies. Julia, who gave birth to twins Phinaeus and Hazel in November last, said that she needed some time to sleep and relax, and therefore, started meditating. "I didn't realise that I would get no sleep at all. I'm so sleep- deprived, I can't even stand. I need to sit down all the time. The only way I can get through it is to meditate," femalefirst quoted Julia as saying to Britain's Grazia magazine. The 'Closer' star also said that she is shocked at how much motherhood has affected her looks. "There are days when I look at myself in the mirror and I'm so fat and bedraggled I don't even know who I am," she said.

     London: A new survey conducted by digital TV channel Music Choice shows that Robbie Williams' hit Angels is the song most Brits want played at their funeral. According to The Sun, 45,000 adults across Europe were questioned for the poll out of which 20,000 voted for Williams. Frank Sinatra's My Way came second while Monty Python's ditty Always Look on the Bright Side of Life comes third. "Music can be very personal, indeed it often helps create a sense of identity. Wanting to share your most treasured musical gem with those you are leaving behind is the perfect way to sign off and leave a lasting impression," Simon George, marketing boss at Music Choice was quoted as saying.

PETA declares war on Jennifer Lopez (Go To Top)

     Washington: Animal rights group PETA has upped the ante in its high profile battle with fur-loving singer Jenniefr Lopez by launching a new anti-J.Lo website called "Jlodown.com', aimed at making people aware of her disdain for animal life and discouraging them from following the pop star in their choice of clothes. "J.Lo knows what animals who are killed for their skins endure- PETA has contacted her with letters and videos no less than a dozen times", ratethemusic quoted a PETA statement on the site as saying. "Through the years, Lopez has worn the skin of just about every animal imaginable, from foxes, who are bludgeoned to death and often skinned alive, to small, gentle chinchillas, who are killed by electrocution or have their delicate necks snapped and 100 of whose skins are required to make just one coat", it added. Keanu Reeves becomes 'Sinbad the sailor' (Go To Top)

     Washington: Hollywood star Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in the Columbia Pictures adventure film 'The 8th Voyage of Sinbad'. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is about Sinabd, who with his loyal crew, is marooned off the coast of China in the 8th Century. The 'Constantine' star will play Sinbad the sailor, the legendary character from The Arabian Nights. 'Fast and the Furious' director Rob Cohen, who will be honored on March 17 as the ShoWest 2005 Director of the Year, is in talks to direct the film.

     Washington: R 'n' B singer Usher has announced his plans to make an action film with Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise. "We're going to make an action film together. I sat down and had a meeting with Tom," Rate the Music quoted Usher as saying. Cruise's spokesperson has also conformed that the two met recently to discuss the details of the untitled project, which took place when Usher accepted Cruise's invitation to visit the Los Angeles set of 'War of the Worlds'. "Tom is a huge fan of Usher's work," the spokesperson added.
