Pak cricket stars on beauty and eating spree (Go To Top)

Kolkata: With one day to go for the battle in the Eden Gardens, the city of joy is leaving no stone unturned in giving a royal treatment to their hot guests - cross-border cricketers. The guests are also enjoying the city, known for its delicacies and sense of beauty all over the world. Some of the Pakistani cricketers are letting their hair down and rejuvenating themselves with the soothing massage. Some of the cricketers went for a trip to beauty parlours and got new designs of haircut. "It's quite nice and he has given a good hair cut and everything is fine out here," said all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, who was quite pleased with his new hair cut. Razzaq was accompanied by his wife and two kids and off spinner Arshad Khan and all rounder Shahid Afridi also joined him. The atmosphere was pretty much relaxed. "My experience is quite good. It's for the first time, I am experiencing this and it feels nice," said Arshad Khan. As the players got their hair coloured, cricket fans flocked to take autographs of their favourite players. Afridi, who had specifically come to the parlour to get his hair coloured, said they were completely focused on their game. "We have come here to play the match and we are going to focus on that. We have a positive frame of mind and let's see what happens," Afridi said.

The city has also made special arrangements that would stimulate the taste buds of the home stars and the visitors. The elite Sonagao restaurant in the Taj Bengal hotel where the teams are staying has made elaborate preparations to satisfy the "foodies," as the players are nicknamed. From kebabs to tandooris to sweets, dishes would be laid for the most awaited guests. Yuvraj, Manager of Sonagao restaurant, said as the Pakistani team would be arriving after a long time they have compiled a special menu for them. "We are aware of what their likes and dislikes are but as a restaurant menu keeps on changing over the time. We have actually compiled their favourite dishes on one menu. So it's easy for them to chose what they ate here last time, they enjoyed," he said. Indo-Pak clashes have always generated a huge excitement and given the feel good atmosphere between the two countries, the host and the guest are trying to make best out of the tour. Pakistan, playing their first test series in India for six years, would be in a better frame of mind after making a comeback in the Mohali test and halting India on a draw.

India has never beaten Pak at Eden (Go To Top)

Lahore: For Eden Gardens, the Test match between India and Pakistan, will be a first of sorts, if India wins the match. Strange as it may sound, but the fact remains that Eden Gardens despite providing huge home support to the Indian cricket team has never been home to a victorious Indian Test team as far as victory against Pakistan in a Test match is concerned. Statistical data compiled by The Nation, has revealed that till now Pakistan have won one and drawn four in five matches played against India at Eden Gardens, with their only victory against the hosts coming in the Asian Test Championship in 1999, which they won by 46 runs. However, India still holds the record of scoring the highest score at this ground, 657 for seven declared against Australia in 2000- 01 series.
