Gujarat Speaker revokes Congress MLAs suspension

     Gandhinagar: Gujarat State Assembly Speaker Mangaldas Patel on Wednesday revoked the suspension order passed on Congress party MLAs, a day after they were removed from the House for unruly behaviour. Patel revoked the suspension of the Congress MLAs after Parliamantary Affairs Minister Ashok Bhatt moved a motion in this regard in the House today. The Speaker said that the Congress MLAs had apologised for their unruly behaviour at house yesterday. On Tuesday, the entire Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly was suspended for the remaining period of the budget session following unruly scenes inside and outside the Assembly. The provocation was the suspension for a day of the Opposition leader, Arjun Mothvadia, after he refused to apologise for some "uncharitable" remarks that he had made against the state Education Minister, Anandben Patel, during Question Hour.

Naxals kill two policemen in Nalgonda (Go To Top)

     Nalgonda: Maoist Naxals killed two policemen and injured another after ambushing a police team travelling through Andhra Pradesh's Nalgonda District late on Tuesday night. The policemen, part of a highway patrol, had gone to the petrol pump to investigate a robbery when they were attacked by the Naxalites at Dandu Malkapur. Head Constable Jilani (40) and constable Sattaiah died on the spot, while head constable Ahmed sustained serious bullet injuries, the police said. Encounters between the police and the Naxals have become more frequent in the last few weeks in the state. Earlier this week, three naxalites ,including a woman, belonging to the CPI-ML Janashakthi Group, were killed on the outskirts of Regulagudem village in the state's Karimnagar District. Police sources said that they had received credibel information on the whereabouts of the extremists, and this had led to the encounter. While three of them were killed, the others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The police recovered a Springfield weapon, a country-made revolver and other material from the encounter site.

Forty-nine killed in Russian plane crash (Go To Top)

     Moscow: A plane attempting to land in Russia's Far North crashed and caught fire killing 49 people on board, a spokesman for the transportation ministry in Moscow told media. "According to preliminary figures, 45 passengers and four crew members have been killed," the spokesman said. The An-24 plane, which was reportedly carrying oil industry workers, crashed in early afternoon near the village of Varandei in the Nenetsk autonomous region, above the polar circle, The News quoted the spokesman as saying. A helicopter with rescue and medical personnel has taken off for the site of the accident, news agencies reported, quoting the emergencies ministry.
