Congress targets Mulayam on funds to brother's college

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Congress today submitted a memorandum to the Governor, T.V. Rajeshwar, alleging misuse of fund by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government. The Congress is sore over the allocation of funds worth Rs 70 crore to a local college in Etawah, Mulayam's home turf. According to the Congress party, the Chief Minister has misused funds under his discretionary quota to unduly benefit the degree college, which is managed by his own brother, Shivpal Singh Yadav. "We have met the governor and complained that there are so many schools without a roof in the state and there are degree colleges which do not have any facility. Only one school which has CM's brother Shivpal Yadav as the administrator and Ram Gopal Yadav another brother as the principal, has got Rs 70 crore," alleged Satyadev Tripathy, the UPCC spokesperson. The state Congress unit further urged the governor to look into the utilisation of funds. The Congress, which supports the Mulayam Singh Yadav led Samajwadi Party government in the state, has mounted pressure on it in recent times. Young party MP Rahul Gandhi had targeted the state government over declining law and order situation in the state.

Islamabad: Pakistan is expected to pitch for a fleet of 70 F-16 fighters during the meeting of visiting of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri later today. "The issue of F-16s has become far more complex after the nuclear scandal while the United States is ready to discuss the same with the two countries. Pak authorities would also try to do a hard bargain on the high- end technology supply. India and Pakistan are already trying to outdo each other in arms procurement while America is trying to make a balance by selling Patriots defence system to India and F- 16s to both India and Pakistan. Today's talks would be significant as they would cover issues ranging from the war on terror, supply of military hardware, situation in Afghanistan, high-technology trade (also nicknamed "glide path" cooperation), Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, Islamabad- New Delhi talks, free trade agreement, cooperation for regional and international peace with economics in the driving seat. "Significant part of the talks focus on the 'Glide Path' cooperation or next steps in strategic cooperation on the nuclear realm," the paper quoted the source as saying.
