"It was humiliating. They were filming it like it was some sort of trophy," the teenage victim was quoted assaying later. The victim's mother condemned the whole episode by calling it sick. While many websites have condemned happy slapping, there are others that profit from such incidents by promoting them either as a 'source of entertainment' or 'black humour.' Andrew Blair, president of the state's Secondary Principals Association described 'Happy Slapping' as a "disturbing and worrying development". He called for stricter controls on usage of cell phones and recording devices.
