Liz Hurley plans a 'white birthday'

     London: Hollywood beauty Elizabeth Hurley is planning an extravagant birthday bash to celebrate her 40th birthday next month. According to The Mirror, the "Bewitched" actress is planning to host a party at her 2.5 million mansion in Ampney Knowle. Female guests have been requested to wear white, while men have been given a strict blue tie rule. Guests of honour will be Sir Elton John - godfather to her three- year-old son Damien - and his partner David Furnish. Other celebrities on the guest list include David and Victoria Beckham, Donatella Versace and her former lover Hugh Grant who will be accompanied by his current squeeze Jemima Khan. "She's been planning this party for months and is desperate to keep everything under wraps. She'll start the evening with a formal dinner followed by dancing," a source close to Liz said. "She been getting tips from Elton - and let's face it, what he doesn't know about throwing a party isn't worth knowing," he added.

San Francisco has a `whores' only college (Go To Top)

     London: The city of San Francisco may be famous for its earthquakes and cyclonic twisters, but has acquired another unique tag - that of being the only city in the United States to have a college for whores. Keen to spread awareness of how to combat or avoid sexually- transmitted diseases, promote self-defence techniques for women in the world's oldest profession and maintenance of appropriate by sex workers, the San Fransisco Sex Worker Film and Arts Festival has introduced this 'whores only college', reports Ananova. A seminar organised by the college recently, laid emphasis on topics like marketing, maintaining a professional appearance and ethical standards by sex workers. Training on self-defence, information on STDs and avoiding arrest by the police were also given to sex workers.

Paris Hilton makes it to 'Hottest Stars Under 25' (Go To Top)

     Washington: Paris Hilton might have many firsts to her credit with the latest one being her debut appearance on the pages of Teen People. According to Zap2it, she has made it to the magazine's annual list of "25 Hottest Stars Under 25." Others include former *N Sync-er Justin Timberlake, "Lord of the Rings" Elijah Wood, Jessica Alba, rapper TI., Alicia Keys, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Simpson and "Star Wars: Episode III" on-screen spouses Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen.

Prince Harry's drunk driving accident  (Go To Top)

     London: Prince Harry nearly had an accident after the chauffeur-driven limo that he was travelling in almost smashed into another vehicle. According to The Sun, he was returning from a nightclub in the wee hours of the morning when his speeding car clipped a parked Citroen and scraped it down the side. The Citroen's wing mirror was knocked clean off and it had two dents around the wheel arch. "Harry was steaming drunk.There was a large bang when their vehicle hit a parked car. The wing mirror flew off and they caused two dents. But instead of stopping they sped away - which is illegal. They should have known better," an insider was quoted as saying. "Harry was laughing all the time and his car stopped for a few seconds a little bit further down the road - but then just sped off again. It was shocking because everyone knows it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident. They should at least have left a note on the car," he added.

'Star Wars' creator George Lucas to be honoured at Cannes (Go To Top)

     London: 'Star Wars' director George Lucas will reportedly be honoured with the the prestigious Festival Trophy at this year's Cannes Film festival. The latest Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith, will premiere at the festival on May 15, reports the BBC. Lucas will receive the award onboard luxury cruise liner Queen Mary II during the 11-day festival. Past recipients include UK film-maker Ken Loach and actor Max Von Sydow. He will become the 10th person to receive the trophy, which was also awarded to actors Sean Penn, Gregory Peck and Philippe Noiret, and actresses Melanie riffith and Jeanne Moreau among others.

Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain reopened (Go To Top)

     London: Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, which was closed four months ago for repairs, has been reopened under the watchful eye of a new team of wardens. In contrast to the grand opening ceremony in July last year, which was attended by Queen Elizabeth and Princes William and Harry, this time nobody turned up from the royal family when the metal gates to the monument were unlocked in front of around 30 people, mostly journalists and park officials. "It's my first day. We're the new breed of custodians. We've got two roles - maintenance and cleaning, and to ensure that the memorial can be enjoyed by everybody," the Daily Mail quoted Scott, a custodian, as saying. The revamped memorial has now got freshly-laid hard-wearing turf and a tough gravel path around the edge and through the middle of the ring of granite. The alterations are intended to prevent the fountain turning into a mud bath.

     Washington: Katie Holmes seems to be a new woman in the life of Tom Cruise if rumours are to be believed. According to Star magazine, he invited her to join him in Italy, where he was being honored at the David Di Donatello ceremony. The two flew to Rome via private jet and checked in to the posh Hotel Hassler where Cruise had booked a 4,000 dollars-a-night, three room suite decorated with Venetian chandeliers.

George Clooney apologises to his neighbours (Go To Top)

     London: Actor George Clooney has reportedly apologised to the residents of the small Italian village, where he has brought a house, for the inconvenience caused to them by his presence. Neighbours in Laglio village also feared they would lose the town's only public beach after Clooney snapped it up to add to his property. But he has been quick to assure them the beach will remain for everyone's use - and has vowed to clean it up and accept honourary Italian citizenship to prove his love for the town, according to Sky News. "I think of Laglio as the most beautiful town in the world. The people, my neighbours, are the kindest and warmest," Clooney wrote in an open letter to the residents of the village. "I have never and would never try to take the beach away... but the story got out there and seems to have stuck. Allow me to prove that I am worthy of an honourary citizenship. Let me fix up the beach," he added.

     London: Orlando Bloom was recently spotted canoodling with MTV presenter Vanessa Minnillo at a tea club in New York, fuelling speculations that the two are seeing each other. "They were whispering to each other, touching each other, and dirty dancing all night. Girls would come up and try to get it on with him, and he politely snubbed every one for Vanessa. They were very much together," the Mirror quoted an onlooker as saying to the New York Daily News. The pair reportedly talked long into the night before they left the club. While Bloom left alone Minnillo made her own way home with a friend.

Britain has more mobile phones than people (Go To Top)

     London: A new study has revealed that Britain's mobile phones have outnumbered its population. According to The Sun Mobile penetration in the UK has risen to 101 per cent. It has already hit 103 per cent in Sweden and 104 per cent in Italy. And the rest of Europe is expected to reach 100 per cent by 2007, say management consultants Analysys. Revenues for mobile phone providers are forecast to rise by nine per cent a year until 2007 as people spend more on services like ringtones and internet access through their phones.

Jennifer Connelly may play Lady Macbeth on screen  (Go To Top)

     Washington: Jennifer Connelly is reportedly all set to star in the movie version of William Shakespeare's classic 'Macbeth'. According to Contactmusic.com, 'A Beautiful Mind' star will team up with Philip Seymour Hoffman for the project, in which she will reportedly play Lady Macbeth. Production is scheduled to begin later this year.

Brian McFadden may quit Britain (Go To Top)

     London: Brian McFadden, who was upset for past few months after splitting from wife Kerry Katona, is reportedly planning to quit UK to live in the US with girlfriend Delta Goodrem. According to sources, Brain's debut solo album 'Irish Son' failed to make any impact in the charts and he now hopes a move abroad will help him start a new life. He has reportedly signed legal papers on a flat in trendy Tribeca region. "Brian wanted to make a fresh start abroad he and Delta feel they are getting a raw deal here," femalefirst quoted a pal as saying.
