Lhasa (Tibet): The 11th Panchen Lama has tonsured the reincarnation of Tibet's fifth Living Buddha Dezhub in Lhasa in observance of the Tibetan Buddhist rituals. The
tonsure ceremony began after Losang Doje was selected as the reincarnation in
accordance with a regulation on reincarnation of living Buddha of Tibetan Buddhism,
and with historical conventions and religious rituals. His selection had involved
a long process, where two slips bearing the names of the two candidates were separately
sealed in silk bags and put in a golden urn after being carefully examined by
government representatives, senior monks and family members of the candidates.
The 11th Panchen Lama and Buddhist Association of China Vice-President, Bainqen
Erdini Qoigyijabu, then took a silk bag out of the urn, which confirmed Losang
as the reincarnated boy. Qoigyijabu later scissored off a lock of the boy's hair
and gave him the religious name Dezhub Jamyang Sherab Palden, Xinhua news agency
reports. Losang was born on November 30, 2005 in Lhunze County of Shannan Prefecture.
The fifth living Buddha Dezhub Jambai Gaisanggyaco died in Lhasa on March 11,
2000 at the age of 66. The boy would become the sixth Living Buddha Dezhub after
the approval of the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. |
