July 28, 2010 | Vatican City bans tourists in skimpy summer clothing from entering the State |
Melbourne: The Vatican City has banned tourists in skimpy summer clothing from entering the tiny, walled state. The ban, which had previously been applied only to St. Peter's Basilica, was seen being enforced by guards manning the official entry point, with them pulling visitors aside for wearing 'inappropriate' attire, News.com.au
reported. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the new decree, which targeted
especially those in shorts and shoulder-revealing shirts, sent many tourists to
local stores to buy shawls, scarves and pairs of trousers. Locals who enter the
Vatican City walls to use its pharmacy, post office and store were left bewildered
by the new clothing rule, as most treat the place like any other part of Rome. |
