Sale of festive haleem dish picks up during Ramadan in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:Sellers of haleem, the festive dish made of meat stew and spices, popular during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, are doing brisk business in Hyderabad. The Mughal dish, which is made of wheat, mutton, gram, pulses, curd, onions and vegetable oil with a sprinkling of spices, is a much-sought meal during Ramadan. Locals throng haleem-vendors in spite of rising prices of the dish. "The sale is good as compared to last year. And though rates of meat, spices this year are higher, we have kept the same rates, and sale is picking up and our online sale is also very good," said Mohammed Abdul Majeed, a shop owner. Eateries in the Hyderabad are busy preparing Haleem, considered ideal for breaking the Ramadan fast. The delicacy has become so famous that its demand has increased in foreign countries as well. "Haleem is not only famous in Hyderabad but in other cities of India, Saudi Arabia and other foreign countries. It is also very famous and people relish it.The persons who fast are advised to have Haleem in the month of Ramadan," said Syed Ajmal Mahmood, a local buyer.
