August 24, 2010 | Jackie Chan defends himself over cancer-causing shampoo endorsements |
Shanghai: Hollywood star Jackie Chan has broken his silence on the controversy created by the alleged cancer-causing
BaWang shampoo that he endorses. According to reports, samples of the shampoo tested in July contained 1,4-Dioxane, which is classified by the US Department
of Health and Human Services as a probable carcinogen (cancer-causing agent). The reports had caused a public outcry, and even resulted in BaWang's stocks being suspended from trading in Hong Kong. However, Chan said: "Incidents like this,
where shampoos are reported to have problems, are not new. Someone is trying to
harm me and BaWang." "I have always been very careful with what products I endorse,"
The Daily Express quoted Chan, as saying. Meanwhile, Marketing experts insist
that Chan will bounce back from the controversy. "Jackie Chan is one of China's
most credible celebrities for a reason. In all his movies, he's always insisted
on doing his own stunts," said Tiger Hou, an analyst. "I'm confident he will recover
from this controversy. The whole thing will blow over," he added. |
