August 26, 2010 | Vermicelli sales shoot up in Hyderabad during Ramadan |
Hyderabad:The sale of vermicelli, or 'seviyan' as it is popularly called, has shot up here during the fasting month of Ramadan. 'Seviyan' forms an intrinsic part of Ramadan meals, as people prefer to eat it when they
break their fast every day. "I am preparing it for 15 years and we are making
this since our forefathers started it 50 years back. This is our family business,"
said Saleem Khan, a worker. Manufacturers say they are flooded with orders during
Ramadan. "Sale is good and will further improve. This year the sale is good than
last year," said Shankar, a shopkeeper. The sellers also confirmed that the handmade
vermicelli is the better one. Muslims awaken before dawn to have an early meal
called 'Sahar'. They fast during the day until called for the Maghrib, their fourth
prayer of the day, at sunset. |
