by the 'Art of Living' and started at about 6 a.m. A large number of people participated
in the event in Bangalore . Speaking on Saturday, Shanmugam, a resident of the
city, said that he had been regularly practising yoga, and added that it had brought
about a drastic change in his daily routine. "It gives me immense pleasure to
be a part of this event. The first thing that amazed me was that they said that
million people are practising it altogether in India . It really is a great event
to be a part of. It has improved my health and I am able to be more active after
practising Surya namaskar (Sun Salutation). It's very simple and it does not take
much time. That is really nice about Surya namaskar (Sun Salutation). I do practice
it every day," Shanmugam said. Similarly, speaking in Chennai, Mahalingam, a resident
of the city, said that thousands of people had taken part in the Yogathon at the
Marina beach and he was happy that more and more people were becoming aware about
the advantages of yoga. "We people are able to do today 108 rounds and a gang
of more than 5,000 people here on Marina beach in Chennai. Yes we have got total
energy. This is an awareness which we have created on World health day and this
is organized by Art of living," Mahalingam said. 'Yogathon' was a nationwide programme,
which was organised throughout the country at the same time. World Health Day
is celebrated on April 7 every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of
