April 7, 2012 | A fashion exhibition called London Market In Delhi! |
New Delhi: From jewellery to fashion, prêt to couture,
all luxury designers, be they high-end or upcoming ones will be showcasing their creative creations under one roof at the exclusively organized fashion exhibition, London Market, on 13th April at Maurya Sheraton in New Delhi. A special preview
of the designs to be showcased was held on Friday in the city. The concept behind
this exhibition is hugely inspired by the Covent Garden market in London, which
has everything of fashion need, available on sale there. Upasna Chugh, the organizer
of London market, said: " London market exhibition is about bringing top designers
and upcoming designers together under one roof, to put forth their best luxury
designs to the buyers. There are designers who just have passed out of fashion
schools and are starting with their own new brands." Last year, she had organized
a similar kind of exhibition called 'Princess Day Out', which turned out to be
a huge success. High-end designer Raakesh Agarwal, who regularly participates
in fashion weeks, believes that such exhibitions cater to the masses and are more
successful because designers get instant reactions from buyers, whether they like
the designs or not. "It's a fabulous exhibition. It brings luxury, big designers
and small designers under one roof. It's very organized exhibition, which we find
very rare in our country today," he said. Raakesh Agarwal is showcasing his spring
summer line inspired from Taj Mahal architecture meeting Barcode. "It's a barcode
meeting the architecture of Taj Mahal. I have used lot of laser cuts, bright colours
and beautiful chikan work, and all are ready-to-wear. You will also see lot of
bags, belts, shoes in my collection," he said. Designer Urvashi Kaur's pre-summer
line is inspired by Indian silhouettes. Urvashi believes Delhiites have become
more experimental and open to fun fashion. "In India , Delhi is a fashion capital.
People are looking out for interested new concepts in fashion and accessories
that really work in Delhi . The whole cliché of embellishments is now passé. People
are looking to accessorise their ensembles, rather having embellishments on their
garments. My silhouettes, drapes and reversibles, the whole sheer will work for
the buyers," she added. Designer Shweta Kohli, whose USP are drapes, embellishments
and fittings, focused on designs that make women appear thin. "This time, I have
done a lot of lycra fabric, a lot of jumpsuits, and a lot of drapes, which help
women to appear thin. I have done embellishments of swarovski and beaded work
in my creations. Keeping summers in mind, I have used all pastel colours," she
said. Besides fashion designers, accessory designers are also participating in
the exhibition with equal joy and zeal. Designer Mani of the Anaaya brand, who
is showcasing bags, thinks that people have become more aware of Indian handcrafts
and embroideries and hence expecting a better response from buyers. "All bags
are handcrafted and hand embroidered with lots of embroidery of semi precious
stones. So everything is basic with lot of Indian motifs and Indian traditional
embroidery. Whatever we design is Indian yet contemporary and can be carried with
any outfit," Mani explained. Besides high-end fashion designers Raakesh Agarwal,
Urvashi Kaur and Hemant Nandita, talented Gen Next designers like Kanelle by Kanika
Jain, Kiwi by Muskan, Festivo by Sonal Mangla, Jewellery by Shweta Kohli, clothing
by Jyoti Narchal and Anaaya by Mani will also put their stalls at the exhibition.
