June 20, 2012 | Russell Brand says yoga and meditation helped him cope with divorce |
London: Russell Brand, whose divorce with estranged wife Katy Perry will be finalised
in a couple of weeks, has admitted that he has never been happier. The British
comedian said that transcendental meditation has helped him through his break
up from Perry because it’s allowed him to “tune into a higher consciousness.”
Brand, 37, split from the popstar at the beginning of the year after 14 months
of marriage. They filed for divorce in February and will be finalised in July.
He’s since been linked to a string of women including wannabe TV host Emily Hartridge
while Perry has been stepping out with Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd.
Brand said that he’s the happiest he’s ever been in his life in an appearance
on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ last week. He said it’s all down to meditation which
is his version of having “a fag or a drink.” “I try not to compartmentalise things
too much into years, but generally speaking I’m happier than I’ve ever been in
my life,” the Sun quoted him as saying on the show. “Of course I went through
a divorce which isn’t good for anybody, but that was that bit of time - that was
really lovely - this is this bit of time - this is really lovely. “I’m dedicating
myself to all sorts of interesting things you know. Transcendental meditation,
kundalini yoga, these things are right good for the old spirit. TM really works
you know, it’s good for your health – both mental and physical. “You know how
in physics they say that everything came from a big bang? Well all these people
believe that everything is from a unified field of energy and if you tune your
brain into it, much the way you tune a radio in, it’s a more positive frequency
than a negative frequency of human consciousness,” he said. Brand continued to
speak about his love for yoga and meditation, urging others to take up the practice.
“Tune yourself into a higher consciousness, that’s what I say. Change the dial.
It’s easy. You just say a word over and over again in your head, they teach you
how to do it. It’s easy. It’s mantra meditation. Anyone can learn to do it and
anyone should. “You can just use it to have a relax instead of having a fag or
a drink, or you can use it to connect with a different form of consciousness.
“I do find it very relaxing and sometimes I doze off as a matter of fact. You’re
not meant to but you can’t help it.” “Nonetheless it’s like a shower for your
brain. God knows I needed one, the muck that goes on in there,” he added.
