Guwahati:In a bid to make the country free of corruption, cheating, violence and discrimination, ascetics performed religious rituals at the ongoing three-day religious fair of 'Ambubachi' at the famous Kamakhya Temple here. Naga Sadhus performed religious ceremonies in a bid to do away with various issues that have plagued the country. While talking to mediapersons, Mahant Ranjitanandgiri said they were performing this ritual as they feel they have a duty towards the country as well. "Being
the responsible citizens of this country, it is our duty to pray for the well being
of this nation. We are performing this ritual so that the country may get rid
of corruption, cheating, violence or discrimination. We always perform these rituals
and ceremonies for the same cause," he said. The three-day fair kicked off in
Guwahati on June 22, and about 200,000 devotees mostly from neighbouring states
of Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa thronged the temple on the very first day itself.
Hindu ascetics from different parts of India also visited the fair. Many of such
ascetics claim to hold mystical powers and hence come over to this fair to solve
the problems of people. "In our country, be it in the state or in the central
government, be there any political problems, or even religious or social, then
it has to be said that God's grace is upon India . The government may behave insensitive
for sometime, but later everything becomes fine. We believe that some such decision
will be taken in the future that will benefit all the country," said Ranjitnanandgiri.
The Kamakhya Temple is one of the most revered temples in India in the pantheon
of Hinduism's mother goddess worship. Ambubachi Mela is the most important festival
celebrated at Kamakhya Temple . It is believed that the presiding goddess of the
temple, Devi Kamakhya, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during Ambubachi.
Hence all the gates of temple are closed and the fair is organized outside the
temple. The fair would conclude on Sunday (June 24) and the next day the temple
gates will be opened for the devotees again.
