New Delhi: The Delhi Metro achieved a milestone on Wednesday,when close to 2.2 million
people traveled on it on the eve of the sibling festival of Raksha
Bandhan. This was the second time in a span of ten days that DMRC carried over
2.1 million passengers in a single day. Delhi Metro recorded the highest ever
ridership figure of 21, 95,999 on August 1, which surpassed the earlier record
set on July 23, when 21, 26,763 people traveled by Metro. On Wednesday, all six
Metro lines grossed the highest ridership individually also. The line-wise breakup
of ridership for August 1 is given below: Line-1: ( Dilshad Garden to Rithala)
-- 336,873 Line-2: (Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre) -- 776,699 Line-3 & 4: Dwarka
to Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar) -- 847,022 Line-5: (Inderlok to Mundka) -- 78,902
Line-6: (Central Secretariat to Badarpur) -- 156,503 Total: 21,95,999 In order
to cater to this increased ridership, the Delhi Metro also opened additional ticket
counters at 24 Metro stations, including Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Seelampur,
Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Adarsh Nagar, M G Road, IFFCO Chowk, HUDA City Centre,
Vaishali, Uttam Nagar East, Dwarka Mor, Moolchand, Sarita Vihar, Badarpur etc.
In the last three months, Delhi Metro has registered a significant increase in
its overall ridership. Its average daily ridership has increased from 1.73 million
in April to 1.90 million in July.
