August 2, 2012 | Holy dip to mark Shravana Poornima in Ayodhya |
Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh):Thousands of devotees took a holy dip in Sarayu River on the occasion of Shravana Poornima (full moon) here on Thursday. “Over the past one month, around ten lakh devotees have come here. Devotees are spread
over five kilometres on the bank of River Sarayu to take holy dip. They have paid
obeisance to Lord Shiva, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. Devotees take holy dip during
the entire one-month of Shravana to fulfil their wishes,” said Pandit Ram Vilas
Das, a priest. Hindus believe taking a dip in rivers cleanses them of their sins
and quickens the way to the attainment of salvation from earthly pleasures. The
occasion also marked Raksha Bandhan, the sibling festival.
