February 15, 2010 | Devotees take holy dip at Triveni Sangam during Rajim Kumbh fair in Chhattisgarh |
Raipur: A large number of devotees from different part of the country took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam during the Rajim Kumbh fair, organised here in Chhattisgarh. Thousands of devotees
visited the two famous Temples of Chhattisgarh--the Rajeev Lochan temple and Kuleshwar
Mahadev temple during the fortnight long religious fair. "We came here to pray
to God for our wish fulfilment and also to buy lots of things in the fair," said
Rupesh Dewangun, one of the devotees. Hordes of holy men and saints from different
parts of the country arrive here during this time of the year and stay in specially
set up cottages. They are erected on sand surface at the Triveni Sangam, a point
where three rivers Mahanadi, Sondur and Pairi mingle with each other. Devotees
take holy bath at Triveni Sangam to cleanse themselves of their sins and for the
fulfillment of wishes. "Compared to holy baths taken in any well, river or sea,
a holy bath taken during Kumbh leads towards salvation," said Swami Neelkanth,
a hermit from Rajasthan. The fair starts on Magh Purnima; full moon night of the
Hindu month of Magh, and concludes on Mahashivratri, Lord Shiva's wedding day.
Since ancient times, Rajim has been a pilgrim centre of Vaishnavites (the followers
of Lord Vishnu). The congregation of devotees to perform religious ceremonies
is known as 'fifth Kumbh' observed every year at the Rajiv Lochan temple located
near the Triveni Sangam. |
