Mumbai: The nine-day ongoing annual art festival here is drawing a good response with art lovers along with international tourists visiting in big numbers. Having
commenced on Feb.6, Kala Ghoda festival is showcasing vibrant forms of art forms
scattered over the lanes and sidewalks of the Kala Ghoda street of Mumbai city.
Animal structures on the road, colourful hangings; like balls and bells from the
tree, 3D paintings on the road and photography exhibited on the sidewalks mark
the festival which has attracted enthusiasts from different parts of the world.
"The art in India is exceptional but it is also nice to see modern art as well.
Often you get opportunity to see traditional art and that is fabulous and that
is what we hope to see today. It's been specially nice to be here and see some
modern expression of art and see that they are also unique and socially relevant
and have something to say," said Professor Jeniffer Kuster, a Canadian national,
on Monday. The festival, a brainchild of a voluntary organisation named 'Kala
Ghoda', is aimed to give a platform to the artistes to display their creative
expression. Indian artistes here have chosen to use this opportunity to raise
awareness about environmental issues. "I want to give people a message that they
should make efforts to save the earth, that is what my art says," said Sachin,
an Indian artiste. Apart from art, the vibrant street festival would also showcase
dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature, lectures, seminars and workshops on
various social issues. |
