April 4, 2010 | Delhi Christian community celebrates Easter Sunday with joy and vigour |
New Delhi:The Delhi Christian Community celebrated the 'Easter Sunday,' the central religious feast in the Christian liturgical year, with great joy and vigor. According to
Christian scripture, Lord Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day
after his crucifixion. A mass prayer and service was held at the Centenary Methodist
Church , in Delhi under the guidance of Reverend Ashwani Francis . Greeting the
community on the occasion, Rev. Francis said: “Easter is the strongest pillar
of Christian faith and the most important event of the history.” “Easter is the
demonstration of God that life is essentially spiritual and timelessness,” he
said. “But the fact Easter gives spiritual power to work, accept the discipline,
and make sacrifice,” Rev Francis added. To commemorate the Easter festival, people
lit candles, offered prayers at various churches in the national capital here.
People sung Easter Hymns, Easter songs during prayers in order to remember and
thank the almighty for this life and his blessings. Speaking to ANI, senior member
of Delhi Christian Community George Abraham informed that the 46-day Lenten season
precedes the Easter celebrations. “Easter is probably the most important festival
of Christians and even more than Christmas. Because this is the day on which Jesus
Christ reappeared from death and established the fact that he is above death,”
Abraham said. He added that Easter boosts the belief in Christ , as on the day
he showed that he is above death and life. “The whole belief that we have in Christ
is that God himself landed as a human being. And because of too much of ill and
wrong doing in the earth and on day to day life also there is a lot of evil that
goes, and I can say God has sacrificed his son for mankind,” Abraham added. People
also exchange wishes, Easter cards and gifts on the occasion. As a part of celebrations,
egg painting and egg hunt competition for kids were held. Kids enjoyed hiding
and finding Easter eggs. |
