Allahabad: Hundreds of devotees took a holy dip at the Sangam, confluence of the holy rivers, Ganges and Yamuna, here on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya Tritiya, is the
third day of the lunar fortnight of 'Vaishakh' is considered one of the most sacred days of
the year. "Parshuram was born on Akshaya Tritiya. It is also called Yugad Tithi
- the starting of the era. Charity done on this day is always fruitful; it never
goes waste," said Acharya Rajendra Mishra. It is believed that by taking a dip
at the Sangam one attains salvation and break the cycle of rebirth. It is also
believed that doing good and charitable deeds on this day bring good things in
life. "Good deeds done on this day are always fruitful. People donate gold on
this day, and do prayers. Akshaya Tritiya has its own importance," said Prema
Mishra, a devotee. The word 'Akshaya' means that which never diminishes, which
is why the day is considered auspicious for people to buy gold and other valuables,
as it is believed they would bring success and prosperity. |
