Gandhinagar: Thousands of devotees joined the annual 14-kilometre-long 'Rath Yatra' in Ahmedabad from across the country on Tuesday. Devotees sang and prayed as the chariot procession carrying
deities of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balram passed through the streets. Apart
from the decorated chariots, 18 caparisoned elephants formed part of the procession.
Gujarat's Chief Minister Narendra Modi also offered prayers before the deities.
"With full enthusiasm, Ahmedabad city welcomes Lord Jagannath and all devotees
are moving forward chanting 'Jai Ranchor Makhan Chor'," said Modi. Police maintained
tight security along the entire 14-kilometer route.
