Brit couple tie the knot - 53 years after getting engaged
London: A Brit couple has tied the knot - 53 years after getting engaged. Freda Wood and Jack Lee's romance first blossomed when they met as teenagers in the Fifties. They became engaged in 1957. Jack, who was then 17, moved in with 19-year-old Freda and her family. Within months, love turned sour. The young couple split up and went their separate ways. However, more than half a century later they found themselves living a few doors apart at a housing complex in Sandbach, Cheshire. Freda, a hospice volunteer, saw Jack in the car park in June and stopped to chat. But they did not recognise each other. "I thought he reminded me of somebody, I couldn't tell who. He didn't know who I was either. But we have a supper night once a month and that's where I heard his name," the Daily Express quoted Freda as saying. A member of staff mentioned a man had moved into the complex and Freda was able to put a name to the mystery stranger. A few minutes later Jack, 70, walked in and Freda, 72, introduced herself. "I was speechless. Once I realised it was her and we got talking it only took a minute or two before we hit it off again - it was just like old times," Jack said. They were married last weekend in Wheelock, Cheshire, where they first met.
