Congress decides to avoid hasty decision on the fate of Karanataka Govt
New Delhi:The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Monday evening held discussions on the situation arising after the controversial win by the B.S. Yeddyurappa-led Government during the trust vote motion held in the Karanataka State Assembly today. Speculation is
rife that the Governor has recommended dismissal of the State Government in the
State. The CWC, reportedly, decided to avoid taking any hasty decision in relation
to Karnataka situation and wait for the High Court judgement on the issue. The
Union Cabinet will, it was reported, will discuss the issue after the judgement.
According to reports, the Congress Party is not likely to join hands with Janata
Dal (S) to form a Government in the State. The Congress Committee meeting was
attended by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi,
Home Minister P.Chidambaram, and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Governor H.R.Bhardwaj
, according to reports, had written to the Assembly Speaker on Sunday, directing
against disqualification of any MLA during the Floor Test of the State Government
in the Assembly House. Governor Bhardwaj had asked the Speaker to retain the configuration
of the Assembly in terms of the members of each party represented in the House.
On Monday, the Assembly Speaker, K.G.Bopaiah, however, went on disqualifying 16
rebel MLAs, including 11 from BJP under the provision of the anti defection law.
It led to the B.S. Yeddyurappa Government sailing through the trust vote. With
this the strength in the 224-member Assembly came down to 208 and 105 became the
figure for the motion to sail through. . Despite being barred by the Speaker from
entering the House, the disqualified MLAs forcibly entered the lounges of the
Assembly, foiling police attempts to block them. Later, they moved the Karnataka
High Court challenging their disqualification and sought a stay on the Speaker's
order. The Court has adjourned till tomorrow the hearing on the petition.
