Rain claims 20 lives in coastal Andhra; heavy damage to crops
Visakhapatnam:Heavy rain in the last few days has damaged crops in 277,000 hectares of agricultural land in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. It has also claimed the lives of 20 people. It has been reported that 26,577 houses have been submerged in rain water. Nellore received a cumulative rainfall of 232 mm, Visakhapatnam 235 mm, Prakasam 86 mm, Vizianagaram 131 mm, East Godavari 301 mm, Srikakulam 114 mm, Krishna 139 mm, West Godavari 166 mm and Guntur 48 mm. East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Nellore and Krishna were the worst affected districts, from where 26,574 people have been evacuated and 92 relief camps are being set up. Villages in Nellore, Prakasam, Chittoor, West Godavari and Anantapur districts on the coast have been inundated as the downpour led to rivulets overflowing.
